LEARNING INTENTION
This task is intended to allow you to display all of the skills and techniques that you have learned during the unit. You will need to plan, assign tasks, record data and present written reports as a part of both the 'Investigation Team' and the 'Criminal Element'.
THIS IS IT, YOUR FINAL TASK!
For this activity you will be taking on two separate roles – a forensic officer and then a criminal. You will be using all of the skills and techniques you have learned during the entire unit, to both investigate and then execute a crime. As this is not a real crime the goal is not necessarily the theft itself. It is all about the evidence. You will have additional tasks including leaving specific evidence for the other team to attempt to find, and you must try to avoid leaving any accidental traces of your presence.
You will not be given any set instructions for this task!!!!!. You are encouraged to be as creative as possible. You might also consider dressing ‘appropriately’ for each role to help you get into character.
As part of the forensic team you will need to:
Design a security system to protect an item from theft which the other team will then try to breach
Investigate the robbery, look for evidence, document it, and develop conclusions based on what you have discovered
Present the evidence and try to get a conviction
As part of the 'Criminal Element' you will need to:
Attempt to breach the other teams security system and take their precious item
Plant evidence that the other team will need to find
Avoid leaving any other trace
Write a report on the effectiveness of the other teams security measures
This task will take several days to complete, and will require you to work as an effective team to both investigate and carry out your crimes.
You will be expected to present documentation of all of your activities and investigations including;
Detailed plans of your security measures
Evidence recovered from the scene, along with attached reports and documentation
A list of evidence you have deliberately left in the scene, including type and location
Reports and documentation for all of your activities.
A rubric will be provided for your reference as you plan and complete this task. Use it wisely – your journey to become a Forensic Investigator may depend on it.
